Mother and Daughter Art Journal Page

I created an art journal page of a mother and daughter while playing around in my art journal.  I sped up the video so that you could get a quick look at my process.  I hope you enjoy!

You can watch it on YouTube HERE.

This is also my last blog post until my show coming up on 10/1/16 at the Colonel Crawford Fall Festival.  You can visit me as well as many other makers, enjoy homemade cornbread and bean soup, and shop for a pumpkin while you are there.  It is a good time.  You can find out more about the event HERE.

Hope to see you there 🙂

Appetite for the Arts Festival

I had the pleasure of sharing a booth with other Crawford County Arts Council members at the Appetite for the Arts Festival in Port Clinton, Ohio last weekend.  We had many different types of arts in our booth including pottery, woodworking, photography, watercolor, mixed media, handmade journals, jewelry, decorated wine bottles and painted wine glasses.

The festival took place at the Port Clinton Municipal Airport and it was such a unique atmosphere.

All of the artists attended a special night on Friday evening where everyone was able to meet the artists, enjoy delicious culinary masterpieces and get first dibs on artwork for sale.

My husband even came along for support and comic relief.

I picked up a few prints from Belly Acres Farm that I fell in love with.

And I fell in love with the centerpieces on the tables.

My husband and I cut out a little early and decided to make a trip to Mon Ami Winery.

We were unable to eat due to the 1-2 hour wait, so we just tasted wine instead.  Well, I tasted the wine and he watched 🙂  It was definitely a fun night.

Have you attended any art festivals lately that were held in unique locations?  I’d love to hear all about it!

Thanks for stopping by.

Gelli Plate Journal Workshop

I’m happy to announce that I will be co-facilitating a new workshop, Gelli Plate Journal, with artist Sandy Laipply.  We will be using different techniques on the Gelli Plates to create an accordion style journal, as pictured below:

You can use any color combination of your choice to make five double-sided pages on several different sized gelli plates.

If you would like to see a quick gelli printing demo, check out this video:

Once you have created your pages, you will fold and adhere them to create your accordion journal.  You will also decorate the covers and attach a ribbon to tie it all together.  You are now ready to use your journal for art journaling, doodling, writing or whatever you desire.

The class will be held at the Bucyrus United Methodist Church Outreach Center on the corner of Hopley and Walnut Streets in Bucyrus, Ohio, on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All supplies will be furnished, including lunch!

Hope to see you in class!!!

2014 Colonel Crawford Fall Festival

My first show at the Colonel Crawford Fall Festival was a success.  I had so much fun and met some pretty awesome people throughout the day, including my first customer, Allie (sorry if  I spelled your name wrong):

I was fortunate enough to have my booth inside of the school.  Unfortunately some vendors were stuck outside during winter-like weather and temperatures.  Here are a few shots of my booth:

(Sorry, this one is a little blurry but it was the best one I could find)

This was my first experience setting up at a major art/craft show.  I must say that it was a lot of work but a great experience.  It also affected my work in both positive and negative ways.  Knowing that I had an upcoming show forced me to take the time to make art more frequently than normal, which I loved.  However, it also felt forced at times and made me want to just do art in my art journal for me and not worry about making something “pretty” or appealing to others.  But it also helped me grow as an artist.  So, of course, I signed up for next year 🙂  Look for my booth at the Colonel Crawford Fall Festival in October 2015!!!!

And be sure to check out my blog and Facebook page this week for details on my upcoming mixed-media canvas class!!!!

My First Art Booth

I finally did my first art show. It was just on the sidewalk in my hometown, but I couldn’t think of a better way to start. It wasn’t a very busy show and I didn’t sell much but it was good experience. I also met some great local artists and picked up a hand stamped piece of metal jewelry by a local artist. My first official customers came from this show as well:

They are my good friends, Jon and Michelle. Thanks guys! They are two of my biggest supporters and helped me set up for the show. I can’t thank them enough! I think I will set up there again in August 🙂
